Music Scholarship

Wales has a history of using music as a primary form of communication. Since at least the 12th century, Welsh bards and musicians have participated in musical and poetic contests called an Eisteddfod (a gathering). Very much in that tradition, the Club since 1955 has offered an annual music scholarship to a new or continuing college student who is a resident of Wisconsin.

The Scholarship is open to applicants who are currently enrolled in an institution of higher learning as a music major and who are carrying at least twelve credits per semester. Those who are intending to enroll are also eligible. The scholarship is limited to undergraduate students. It is open to Wisconsin residents of any ethnic background, although preference may be given to students of Welsh heritage.

The amount of the scholarship is $1000. $500 is given to the recipient in the Fall and $500 in the Spring.

Applications for 2018 must be submitted by June 1. Click the Contact link above for further details.

The 2016 and 2017 winner was Claire Bilicki of Milwaukee. Claire is currently a sophomore studying music at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA. Her repertoire includes secular, classic, religious, and operatic selections. Claire is partly of Welsh descent on her mother’s side of the family.

As is expected of all scholarship winners, Claire will entertain at the Club event this June. Don’t miss this treat!
